Cockapoo : How Much Food Should a Cockapoo Eat
How much food should a Cockapoo eat? The amount of food your Cockapoo needs may vary depending on its age. Here is a helpful chart to go by.
Even if you’ve had experience with dogs before, caring for a puppy comes with its own set of challenges. One of those challenges is how much to feed your puppy.
How Much Food Should a Cockapoo Eat
It depends on the breed, size, weight, and age of the cockapoo how much food it should be fed.
Cockapoo puppies should be fed three to four times a day when they are young. Two adult portions should be given twice a day to adult cockapoos over 10 months of age.
You may have heard that Cockapoos are designer dogs. A Cockapoo is a mixed breed which is a combination of a Poodle and a Cocker Spaniel.
Because both parent breeds have their own sizes, even Cockapoos of the same age can be various sizes.
One of the most significant actions that a pet owner can take is make sure their puppy’s diet is appropriate for its size and weight.
For example, over the course of weeks, a small Cockapoo will be eating more food than a large adult Cockapoo. So it’s important to know how much to feed your dog based on its size and age.
Cockapoos consume calories based on their weight and size at a given age. Active lifestyles require more calories than less active lifestyles.
The Dog’s age has a bigger impact on their metabolism, so it’s best to always make sure they’re eating enough at each food.
2 to 3 week old Cockapoo:
A 2-3 week old Cockapoo puppy should be fed every 2 to 3 hours. At this age, Cockapoos usually need to eat about 4 times per day.
If you feed your pet a mixture of formula, you can read the instructions on the package. For a 4-month-old Cockapoo, for example, they would need to be fed 1 cc for each ounce of their body weight four times throughout the day.
4-5 week old Cockapoo puppy:
Puppies usually start eating solid food from their mothers from the age of 3 to 4 weeks onwards.
Here’s some general guidelines for feeding your pet. If the food you’re using is a formula, then you should feed them 4-5 times per day following the instructions on the back of the package. You’ll need 50-100 calories if your pet weighs under 1 lb.
6 to 7 week old Cockapoo:
As a Cockapoo gains weight, they will require about 200 to 250 calories of food per day. It is important at this stage that your Cockapoo is fed several times a day.
8 to 9-week-old Cockapoo:
Working as a Cockapoo trainer for the last 8 weeks, I’ve seen that during this time of their growth they must eat more.
You will be feeding them 3-4 times throughout the day, which would mean that you need to give them 3/4 cups of food throughout the day. A good way to feed a 7-8 week old Cockapoo is by giving them 1/2 cup each time, making it 3 feedings per day.
10 to 11 week old Cockapoo:
When your Cockapoo is younger, it’s important to feed them more often and in smaller portions.
As your dog approaches the 10-11 week mark, it’s time to decrease their feeding times and adjust the amount. If they used to have half cups 4x a day, you can decrease it to 3x a day, but with quarter cup portions.
3 month old Cockapoo:
Around three months old, cockapoos are still puppies. They have yet to adjust to food routines.
It’s important to keep their feeding routine to 3-4 times a day at this stage. They will consume between half a cup and one cup of food in one meal within one day.
For an average cockapoo that weighs about 8-9 pounds, you may be giving them about one cup of food every day.
4 month old Cockapoo:
As a cockapoo approaches four months old, he or she will weigh more than they used to, as well as getting more active.
There isn’t much of a difference in the diet for the 3rd and 4th month. It’s about ¾ cups to 1.5 cups of food, if your cockapoo weighs 12 to 15 lbs.
5 month old Cockapoo:
As a cockapoo transitions from four to five months old, they start to become more active. As they grow up and their body grows, they will need more nutrients each day.
Most healthy standard cockapoos will grow up to 13 pounds at 5 months old. A teacup or miniature cockapoo would also put on a few extra pounds.
At this stage, you should feed them between 1 1/8 cups and 2 cups of food each day. Be careful to not overfeed your puppy and follow the usual feeding charts.
6-month-old Cockapoo:
A lot of cockapoo parents will attempt to feed their pup 3 times a day or less at this stage.
A six-month-old cockapoo should be eating about ¾ to 1.5 cups of food a day, regardless of how many meals you’re splitting the intake into.
7-month-old Cockapoo:
A cockapoo puppy can be anywhere from 5 lbs to 16 lbs depending on their breed.
One of the most important factors you will want to know about caring for your cockapoo puppy is its age. A 7-month-old cockapoo should be fed from half cups to 1.5 cups per day.
If you have a cockapoo, please make sure you consider their diet, as it could affect their health and growth.
8 month old Cockapoos:
When a cockapoo is 8 months old, they’re at the peak of their energy and hunger. As parents, it’s tempting to start feeding them like adult dogs, but this isn’t necessary.
To give a standard cockapoo the proper amount of nutrients, they require about 1 1/8 to 2 1/8 cups of food per day depending on factors such as their size.
9-month-old Cockapoo:
It is normal for cockapoos to start eating adult portions of food–especially since they need fewer than 12 feedings per day.
A good start would be 1/2 cup, 1 cup or 2 cups every day depending on how many feedings that dog has per day.
10-month-old Cockapoo Puppy:
A cockapoo is considered to be a puppy until they reach 10 months old. Once they weigh 20 pounds, they’re considered adults (their ideal weight would be 20 pounds).
So when a cockapoo is 10 months old, it’s still considered a puppy. If you have a cockapoo, at this stage they will only need to be fed twice a day.

Are You Overfeeding Your Cockapoo Or Not Feeding Enough?
The amount of food that a dog should be fed can be tricky to determine. One of the most important purposes for having a feeding chart is that it can help you guide your pup’s diet without overfeeding or underfeeding them.
But since all cockapoos are different, it can be tricky to figure out. Now that you’ve read the chart above, you may want to keep in mind how much a Cockapoo should weigh and what their age range is.
A teacup dog is usually 15 pounds or less. If you have a cockapoo that is way above, then it might mean your food amounts for your dog are off the charts.
A healthy waistline for an obese Cockapoo should not be visible, whereas for a healthy-weight Cockapoo it should be somewhat oval-shaped with a little bit of fat on the sides.
If you can touch your puppy’s ribs, then there is a chance that they are not feeding well. Their hips and spine would also show structure if they’re not being fed enough.
If your dog has a normal bowel movement in the morning but is loose or soft in the evening, they’re probably overfed. Flatulence and gastric issues are also common when pets are getting more food than they need.
How Frequently To Feed Your Cockapoo?
Your cockapoo’s feeding frequency will depend mainly on its age, health, activity level, and breed type.
For the first 3-11 weeks of life, your cockapoo should be fed 4-5 times a day to meet their nutritional requirements. If you are feeding them packaged food, divide the daily amount by 4-5 meals.
Up until around 3 months of age, your cockapoo should be fed 2 meals a day. Once they’re around 10 to 12 months old, they should be fed the same amount two times a day.
Recommended Feeding Schedule
If your cockapoo is a puppy and weeks old, it is best to keep the schedule fixed every day. Puppies eat more than one time per day, so the first feeding starts in the morning and then happens every two hours.
Adult cockapoos should be fed after a walk or activity session. When feeding your dog once a day, make sure you’re feeding him in the morning.
Final Thoughts
Cockapoos will require different amounts of food depending on its age, weight, and size.
For teacup breeds, half to 1 cup of food is enough for a meal while an adult cockapoo may require up to 2.5 cups throughout the day.
A healthy cockapoo will have an hourglass body with enough flesh around its rib.
