Lawyers expecting to overturn a high-profile libel ruling against Jonny Depp seemed to cast doubt on testimony provided by his ex-wife Amber Heard, as they sought approval to appeal against last year’s UK court decision.
When ex-wife Heard seized $7 million in their 2017 divorce settlement, she promised to provide the cash to the American Civil Liberties Union as well as the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.
Instead on Wednesday, it appeared out in court that Amber Heard never delivered over the money to the charities.
Sources friendly to Depp think that the disclosure could work to his benefit in trying to appeal another of his numerous legal battles.
The “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor sued ‘The Sun,’ a British newspaper after it disgraced him as a “wifebeater” for allegedly beating Heard throughout their marriage. He lost the case last July.
But he’s now attempting to appeal the ruling.
Heard was a principal witness in the primary case, and a judge decreed the allegations made against Depp in the article were “substantially true.”
Sources close to Depp’s team informed us this week:
“The judge believed she was this wonderful human being standing up for mankind,” because of her supposed generosity, “but she was lying out of her ass regarding the donations.”
To decide whether Depp can appeal, his lawyer called the claim about donating the money “calculated and manipulative lie,” at a hearing in London on Thursday.
But lawyers for the Sun stated that Heard didn’t lie, that she’d executed “several payments already” and was just not finished handing it over yet.
It also spread out in court that Depp had posted a text to a friend at that moment saying,
“No Way she’ll give a dime to anyone!!! Thank f–k she’s gone!!! It makes me sick to think of how hard I tried to make it work… Now… Honestly, I wouldn’t touch that f–ing whore with a Hazmat suit on!!! What scum. I f–ing hate her!!!”
Reps for Heard and Depp didn’t get back to Page Six.
