Veteran Actor Shashikala Om Prakash Saigal Passes Away At 88
Shashikala was born on August 4, 1932 in Solapur, Maharashtra, one of the six children, and was dabbling in arts and crafts from a very young age. She is married to Om Prakash Saigal and they have two daughters.
Actor Shashikala, who performed in movies with Shah Rukh, Salman Khan, dies at 88. More than 100 movies have featured Shashikala in supporting roles.
Shashikala was last portrayed as a South African witness in the 2005 release Padmashree Laloo Prasad Yadav.
The legendary veteran actor Shashikala Om Prakash Saigal passed away today.
She was 88 years old. Shashikala, also known by her first name, played various supporting characters in films such as Bimla, Sujata, Anupama, Waqt, Gumrah, and Khubsoorat among others.
The news was tweeted by Indian politician Praful Patel with the following message:
“Deeply saddened by the demise of Veteran actress Shashikala ji. She made a noteworthy contribution to Indian Cinema by portraying several pivotal roles. My heartfelt condolences to her family members. May her soul rest in peace.”
In 2007, the Indian government awarded Shashikala the prestigious Padma Shri for her exceptional contribution to the world of cinema and arts. In addition to awarding her the Lifetime Achievement Award, the 2009 V. Shantaram Awards nominated her for the People’s Choice Award. Shashikala’s work in Aarti and Gumrah has also made her a Filmfare award-winner.
